7 Simple Home Made Remedies for Cough

1. Honey

A lot of scientists and doctors swear by this all- in- one healthy nature’s nectar. Have it directly or mixed with crushed ginger or basil leaves for a relieved throat. You can even have it with lemon juice or the classic time- tested remedy- bourbon+ warm water+ honey

2. Thyme

Thyme is known for its medicinal properties of soothing any kinds of sore throats and respiratory problems. Crush two teaspoons of thyme leaves into boiling water enough for a cup to drink before bed. You can also add mint leaves, honey, ginger or lemon for more health benefits.

3. Steam Up

Put on a hot shower, close ventilation for some time and soak in the steam. It would open up the airways and any congestion and you can have a good night’s sleep. However, if you are asthmatic, consult a doctor before going for steam therapy.

4. Ground pepper

For mucosal problems mix ground pepper in water and let it boil for about 10 mins. Strain, add two teaspoons of honey and sip it slowly.

5. Fluids

Drink lots of fluids in the form of teas, juices and lots of water. They keep your nasal membranes moist that reduces the urge to cough.

6. Lemon

Sprinkle some salt and pepper on a lemon and keep on sucking at it. You can even have hot lemonade. Just don’t forget to add honey instead of sugar and a bit of butter. Sip and enjoy the warm feeling in your throat.

Use the licorice candies that use actual licorice roots by cutting them into small pieces and steeping it in boiling water for about 24 hours before sipping it at regular intervals.
